Annette Hughes, 88 years old, of Stratford passed away on November 22, 2023 after a brief illness with cancer. Annette was born on August 4, 1935 to the late Leo and Mary Breault and was pre deceased by her husband David (Bubby) Hughes, Brother Richard Breault, Sister Yvonne DeAngelis and son-in-law Gary Stephen.
Annette is survived by her brother Leo Breault of Missouri, daughters Bonnie Stephen and Tracey Cioffi (Frank) and sons Garry Hughes (Lynn) and David Hughes (Carol) . She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Annette, a lifelong resident, of Stratford graduated from Stratford High School in 1953. She worked for over 40 years as a bank teller and retired from Bank of America. In 1949, at the age of 14, she rescued a 3 year old from drowning in the lower pond at Longbrook Park. The Bridgeport safety council presented her with a medal and certificate in recognition of service to humanity for saving a human life. In addition to raising her family, this is was one of her proudest achievements in life. Seventy two years later, she finally met the man that she had saved as a child.
A memorial mass be will held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. St James Church, 2070 Main Street, Stratford CT. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), Sterling House Stratford CT (www.sterlinghousecc.org) or a charity of your choice.
